Dancer

I began my street dance career in 2016. Popping is my category. My style is boogie.

There was a time when I was deciding my career as a street dancer or as a professor.

The decision came in 2019 - my dancing friends and teachers were sorry about my leaving. I still remember their joke: "Do not let your school work imped your dance career".

But the reality is that I cannot do two things well at the same time. I am very pity about this route that I did not take. But I have no regret.

Dance gives me so much and now it's like the fresh air, the sunshine, and the rain in my life.

My Popping Journey

First stop (2016): Loudi, Hunan, China.

I started my first class at MY Dance Studio. My teacher is Wall-E, specialized in animation. Wall-E taught me the basics and strongly encouraged me to continue my dance career.

Second stop (2017 - 2018): Shenzhen, Guangzhou, China.

I began to polish my popping skills at Wabble Steet Dance Studio. My teachers include Rockit, Asure, Sanmu, etc. They taught me so many skills, such as pop, roll, battle skills, and timing, etc. This is an incredible journey.

Third stop (2019): Jinhua, Zhejiang, China.

I stayed in Jinhua for 3 months before I went to my Ph.D. journey in August, 2019. Xiaohei is my teacher, who gave me so much support and encouragement. Here, I met with other poppers (who became friends with me) from Qilin Dance Crew from Zhejiang Normal University.

Fourth stop (2022-2023): Tempe, Arizona, United States.

During my Ph.D. journey at Arizona State University, I had less time to pratice my dance skills. However, I did get a chance to get to know all the amazing poppers in Arizona. They include Mr. Groove, Alvin, Armani, Sweap, etc. They are all respectul people, who showed me love, and helped me to build my personal style.

Next stop?

I will start my position as an assistant professor in mainland China in September 2025. I will continue my popping career in the city where I land. I am looking forward to communicating with the local dancers there.

I am grateful for all the people along the way.
